Harvard Health Publications, Harvard Medical School wrote in May 2009:
"The health benefits of Tai Chi.
This gentle form of exercise can help maintain strength, flexibility, and balance,
and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life.
Tai chi is often described as "meditation in motion," but it might as well be called "medication in motion."
There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art,
has value in treating or preventing many health problems.
And you can get started even if you aren't in top shape or the best of health."
Tai Chi goes back hundreds of years in history.
Today most Tai Chi practitioners do Tai Chi to obtain, and maintain good health, but i is a Martial Art as well.
The focused way of training prevents stress and a lot of common diseases.
Every one can begin practising Tai Chi, no matter condition or health.
Most people know Tai Chi, from documentaries, with slow and focused moves.
And it is the slow moves that strengthen the body in a very gentle way,
opposite of Aerobic, weightlifting, Crossfit a.s.o. where the body is stressed to gain results.
We do Tai Chi with our legs bended.
That improves the muscles and knees, ankle and hip becomes strengthened,
which improves your balance, especially beneficial when you get old.
It's not unusual that an old person falls, breaks the hip or thighbone, and the long process of healing,
weakens the person so much, the they never gets back to an active life.
Tai Chi helps you to avoid that sad experience.
All the moves pivots round the hip and lower abdomen.
That strengthens our immune system, since 90% of our imunne system is produced in that area.
Science has proved that Tai Chi haves a benificial effect on arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Multiple studies has shown, that people with arthritis are less bothered from pain,
and at the same time, the pain isn't as strong as usual.
It's also turned out, that Tai Chi have preventive effect against Alzheimers syndrome
and Parkinsons disease.
As a bonus you'll find that your body becomes more erect.
"I had the greatest of pleasures to
be taught Tai Chi by the wonderful Michael Foss.He was just brilliant.
Not only did he come all the way to Dublin, Ireland to teach us, but he was tremendously dedicated, accurate and thorough in his explanations and demonstrations.
Michael was also very patient, incredibly encouraging and made me laugh too...
which makes everything even more fun.
I treasure my memories...and have never forgotten what he taught me. Fantastic.
I couldn't recommend Michael Foss more.
Thank you Michael! I look forward to the day I get to train with you again.xx
